Improving nature around wind farms

Offshore wind is one of the great success stories of the Dutch energy transition. In Het Financieele Dagblad, director of SSE Renewables Netherlands, Jasper Vis, says that despite rising costs, he sees a bright future for Dutch offshore wind – as long as quality, and not financial criteria, continues to dominate bids.

“For IJmuiden Ver, 85% of the points in the tender selection are still awarded based on bid quality. This is valuable and fits well with the current situation of offshore wind, namely in incorporating wind energy into the energy system without disrupting the natural environment. In all the areas where we have developed projects, we aim to leave nature in a better state than before.”
